Power Fade

When the Game Turns Deadly

Professional golfer Roy Gilbert wakes, dazed and defenseless, in the mangrove swamp of the Everglades. Across the bay hangs the wreckage of the small Cessna his friend John piloted on their sightseeing trip. Roy has no memory of the crash, and John is nowhere to be found.

Roy escapes the swamp and rejoins the tour, but danger follows. Why did the plane crash? Who is chasing him? Where is John? Who can he trust? The answers lead Roy on a perilous journey to a breathtaking climax.

In the style of Dick Francis, Power Fade brings mystery and suspense to the high-profile world of professional golf.

Inside, Outside, and On the Ropes

Life Lessons from Q-School and the Majors

Changing careers is a challenging proposition. Do it at age 50 and your family might want your head examined. But then to choose the PGA TOUR's Champions Tour as your next profession-well...now inkblots and a shrink's couch are definitely in play.

Welcome to Keith Gockenbach's world. A respected, established executive, who traded his wingtips and fancy pens for softspikes and little pencils, shares his experiences and insights as he chases his dream to become a player on professional golf's premier stage.

This is not a behind the scenes retrospective but rather an "inside the ropes... between the ears" narrative of what it's like to be "out there" on all different levels: from competitive shot-by-shot descriptions of the U.S. Senior Open to handling the pressure of scoreboard watching at Q-School.

For all golfers who wonder what it would be like to have the game, the goals, and the guts to try to make it on the PGA TOUR's Champions Tour... this book is in your literary rangefinder.

Deadly Loop

Coming Spring, 2013

On a Tuesday in San Diego, Tour caddy Andy Marsh is fired by his erratic boss. Wednesday, he learns that his friend and fellow caddy Tim Wainright has been murdered in San Diego's Gaslamp Alley. Forced to search for a job and Tim's killers, Andy struggles with suspicious detectives, a late-night beating from two thugs, and his self-confidence.

Andy learns more about Tim's past and current activities from Tim's sister Patricia following the memorial service in Farmington, New Mexico. Who caused Tim's death? Was it Tim's gambling habit or a jealous caddy? Was it his attempts to help Patricia rescue abducted girls? Was it an old lover or a desperate equipment manufacturer?

Andy's search for answers leads him from peril to peril. At the same time, he struggles to earn the trust of Tim's former pro, world number two golfer Lefty McGowan, as well as Tim's sister, Patricia. In a nail-biting conclusion, Andy gets his answers, but is it too late?

Deadly Loop Progress

January 29th, 2013

Today I received feedback from the last of my five readers of my second novel, Deadly Loop. Now the next stage of revision begins! As usual, their critique is invaluable, ranging from plot twists which need more development to characters which need more “fleshing out.” The good news is they all liked Andy, loved the [...]
